  Disappointed. Read so many lovely reviews and heard good things about this pub - maybe they were having a bad day.
  
  To celebrate my 21st my Mum decided to take me and my family here which I was excited about as had never been to this pub/restaurant.
  
  We were greeted quite rudely by the front of house staff- they seemed unhappy to be working and I felt unwelcome.
  
  However shortly after sitting at our table we order some drinks and got a starter to share (camembert) It was so nice, I loved it and so did everyone else. This made us very excited for our mains.
  
  About an hour and a half later we ad received our main course (because it took so long we expected to receive something very nice)
  
  Instead the beef in my roast dinner was so tough I could not even cut it with a steak knife
  
  The other dishs were cold, tasteless and just looked liked been thrown onto a plate like slop.
  
  Was really rooting for this restaurant and kind of ruined my birthday as ended up getting cheesy chips as a meal on my birthday
  
  My conclusion is that the staff were having a bad day.
  
  It was a sunday and fairly busy but this is no excuse to serve food this way.
  
  We were given two meals off our receipt (out of four meals) and two pints of beer off.

  Had bangers & mash with onion gravy - perfect for a wintery day. Sausages were locally sourced & really meaty. Staff very friendly & service was quick. Lovely coffee too.

  Lovely big beer garden to enjoy the best pint in Sussex. Absolutely fantastic food and friendly staff who are happy to go the extra mile !!! X

  Over the years I have been visiting this hostelry from 1988 and it still amazes me how the quality of food, condition of ales and service is still great. Well done.
